More information on me and my growing empire of web sites can be found on my web site. I will definitely be at the two conference events below, but other than that I refuse to make a commitment.
Sunday, April 15 Preconference Workshop
Workshop 11 — Tips for Effective Technology Change Agents
1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Roy Tennant, User Service Architect, California Digital Library
To be effective libraries must adopt new technologies ever faster. But libraries are often bureaucratic, slow-moving organizations that require staff who are knowledgeable and effective change agents. How can you be such a person? What skills, strategies, and methods can you acquire and employ to help your organization move ahead quickly and effectively? What are the pitfalls and barriers you can avoid or overcome? Learn what it takes to be an effective advocate for change in your organization with practical tips and guidance from a battle-hardened technology warrior. Tennant covers planning strategies, sources for keeping up with technology, coping mechanisms and more.
Wednesday, April 17
Session B302 — Catalogs/OPACs for the Future
11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Roy Tennant, User Services Architect, California Digital Library
Andrew Pace, North Carolina State University Libraries
Our panelists, leading experts, build on their popular CIL session from 2006. They once again take a look at the current state of the art of integrated library systems and speculate where OPACs are going in a 2.0 world.
Session C304 — Repository Essentials: From Soup to Nuts
3:15 – 4:00 p.m.
This session describes what's needed to create and manage an insitutional repository, from software options to implementation models. It looks at the do's and don'ts of building a repository, highlights applications, and provides lots of tips and cautions.
Below is a fairly recent photo of me, but don't expect me to be walking the CIL halls with a tie. Grab me, introduce yourself, and tell me one thing that either turns you on about libraries or worries the heck out of you. Or, whatever else you want to talk about. But don't be shy. And if you want to go so far as to buy me a drink, I won't complain. :-)
