Hi! I'm "Debby with a Y", and this is my first CIL. I'm the Electronic Resources Coordinator for Broward County Library in beautiful downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This is a newly created position, and one of my duties is to digitize our many special collections using CONTENTdm.

I recently digitized several unpublished manuscripts from the Alex Haley collection at our African American Research Library and Cultural Center, and the Civilian Conservation Corps collection in our Bienes Museum of the Modern Book.  We are adding new collections frequently. I have been asked to create a new virtual library for BCL, and I expect to bring back many great ideas from CIL.

I've been with BCL in a variety of positions since 1994, except for a 14-month stint at SEFLIN in the late 90's. Before BCL, I spent 5-1/2 years as a research librarian at the Sun-Sentinel. In 2008, I will celebrate 20 years of online searching! Prior to becoming a librarian, I was a professional SCUBA instructor for several years.

Besides talking about computers and digitization and the future of libraries, I also love bicycling, SCUBA diving, fishing, kayaking, and cats, and I plan to use the hotel's gym daily. Join me for a workout...let's get together for a meal or a tour! Contact me at dbradford @ browardlibrary.org.
