OFFICIAL STATEMENT
ARLINGTON, VA—March 1, 2007-- After learning that several guests of Hyatt Regency Crystal City showed symptoms of illness, the Health Department was contacted and ran tests on some of the affected guests. The tests conclude that the guests had contracted Norwalk virus, a highly contagious virus.
As such, we are working with the Health Department closely and are taking appropriate actions. The hotel has been closed effective Thursday, March 1, and all guests and groups are being relocated while the hotel is completely deep cleaned. It is anticipated that the hotel will reopen on Tuesday or Wednesday, March 6 or 7, 2007. The Health Department will give the final approval on the reopening.
While we do not yet know the source of this situation, we apologize to our guests for any inconvenience from this unfortunate situation. We are taking this situation very seriously and are working closely with the appropriate health officials to make adjustments on their behalf.
Hyatt has a long track record of providing a safe and clean environment for guests and employees and prides itself in upholding the highest standards of sanitation in all areas of the hotel. The safety and welfare of our guests and employees remains a top priority for Hyatt.
